Responsibilities:

Dr. Tyson is the Academic Professional for Graduate Studies in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry. His responsibilities include: (1) development and implementation of successful graduate and undergraduate recruitment programs, (2) academic advisement of graduate and undergraduate students, (3) management of student academic records and progress, as well as advisor of departmental and Institute academic procedures and policies, (4) assistance with writing and submission of grant proposals for academic enhancement programs, (5) administration and monitoring of budgets for Chemistry & Biochemistry graduate fellowships/assistantships, (6) management of departmental graduate teaching assignments, and (7) teaching of undergraduate organic chemistry courses during the summer semester. His efforts over the last seven years have led to a dramatic increase in the number, quality, and diversity of entering graduate students. He has served on panels dealing with graduate recruitment and diversity for the American Chemical Society and the Department of Education.
