Undergraduate Curriculum
The School of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers coursework leading to a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Below are the recommended eight semester term programs of study for each degree. The department also offers the research option and international option for both degree programs.
B. S. in Biochemistry (Recommended by ASBMB):
B. S. in Chemistry (Approved by ACS tracks):
Research or International Options for the B.S. in Chemistry and B.S. in Biochemistry:
- B.S. in Chemistry (Research Option)
- B.S. in Chemistry (International Plan) *New!!-Approved by Institute*
- B.S. in Biochemistry (Research Option)
- B.S. in Biochemistry (International Option) *New!!-Approved by Institute*
For additional information and TO APPLY for either plan, please see: Georgia Tech Research Option or Georgia Tech International Plan Option
Chemistry Certificate Program (for non-majors)
The School of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers, for non-chemistry majors, programs of study leading to certificates in three areas: biochemistry/organic chemistry, chemical analysis, and physical/inorganic chemistry. These certificate programs should be of interest to students considering careers in medicine or chemical-related industries, as well as those who wish to strengthen their background in areas of chemistry that are not required by their major.
Each certificate program requires a minimum of 12 hours in a coherent program with at least 9 hours at the 3000 level or higher. These courses must be chosen from the list of courses in the given emphasis area and must be completed with a grade of C or better. Courses required by the student's major may not be used in the certificate program. The following courses may be taken to satisfy the certificate requirements:
Biochemistry/Organic Certificate
Chem 2312, 2313, 2380, 3511, 4311, 4341, 4511, 4512, 4581
Chemical Analysis
Chem 2380, 3211, 3411, 3412, 4341, 4401
Physical/Inorganic Chemistry
Chem 2380, 3111, 3380, 3411, 3412, 3481, 4452
