Membrane proteins comprise 30% of all proteins and are the majority of modern drug targets. My talk will span both the inner and outer membrane and will use methodologies ranging from molecular biology to bioinformatics to protein design. I will discuss I) how charge affects membrane protein insertion and topology in the inner membrane, II) how charge affects membrane protein insertion in the outer membrane, and III) the relative forces responsible for membrane protein-protein interactions.
